Is there any point in doing low level or any quests for that matter? Are they just a waste of time?

Waste of time.
Important "Cultivation" quest for level 89 (FB89) can be started at level 81 if I remember correctly

no need to do any quest at all, unless you want to learn crafting. only do lvl 89 (as mentioned by Adeno) and lvl 99 cultivation quest. other than that, just grind for lvls and money.
