How To Properly Install

I've tried reinstalling many times but it only keeps adding problems so I figure I MUST be doing it wrong.
First problem is with my flying swords. First I bought Astral Melody but it didnt glow like I thought it did so then I bought SaintGod. This one didn't glow either but people in game said they saw it glowing. On my screen, all i see is the sword but none of the effects (see screenshot). I still wasnt convinced so I bought yet ANOTHER flying sword, one i recognized from PWI, Black Hole. Now with this one, I can't even see it. It just looks like i'm floating in mid air.
My second problem is with the shield buffs (i'm a MG). When I first starting playing, it was the normal 3 magic shields floating around you. Sometime during the many reinstalls I did to try to fix the flying sword problem, this also got messed up. Now, instead of the shields floating around, i get graphics from other classes' buffs. Stone shield gives me the EAs glowing red hand graphic, fire and water shield look like EA or EPs shield that absorbs physical damage (see screenshots).
Third problem which happened after the last time i reinstalled, is that when I buy a level 1 skill. It doesn't update that I bought that skill. It takes my spirit and money, but it still shows the lvl 1 there (instad of giving me the option to buy lvl 2) and it doesnt show up in my skill list. In order to get it to show up, I have to log off and log back on.
So, having all these problems, I assume i'm installing the thing wrong. How i've been doing it thus far is: Install PWI fresh to harddrive, let it update to the latest version of PWI, extract the patch to desktop then copy the files to the PWI folder, overwriting when asked, then i do the same with the animation patch and the hotfix. Someone please give me some answers why this thing hates me. Thanks.
